The Deshaun Hill and Harvard Stephens Scholarship was established to honor the memory of two members of the Harvard Class of 1999, Deshaun Hill and Harvard Stephens. Both were amazing students who were very active at Harvard College. The scholarship is open to outstanding African-American sophomores and juniors at Harvard. Successful applicants should demonstrate academic excellence, a commitment to community service and character. Those who concentrate in math, science and related fields are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants' financial backgrounds will also be considered. The two $1,500 scholarships are open to any student of African descent in his or her sophomore or junior year.
Students must be nominated by their respective houses by November 18, 2016. The application deadline is December 9, 2016. We will notify winners during the week of January 23, 2017.
Candidates need to submit all of the following materials after being nominated to qualify:
- The scholarship application
- An application essay
- A letter of recommendation from a House Master, Allston Burr Resident Dean, or House Fellowships Advisor (A letter from an academic or professional who has interacted directly with the applicant during their college career may be used as an additional recommendation where appropriate.)
- An official Harvard College transcript
- The candidate's scanned or electronic signature
We prefer that application materials are delivered by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applicants and their recommenders may also send materials by mail.
